Being Busy

I thought I was busy before I had a child. I had a full-time job - and I mean a really full-time job with late meetings and conference calls (oh, the conference calls!!!) travel in my personal time, and mountains of emails that always needed reading.
That was nothing!
Now that I have a gorgeous little creature to look after life is seriously busy. You don't sit down. [ok, I am sitting down now but I can hear the laundry, the dirty kitchen, the bills and oh, yes, my very important new venture calling me.] Every moment spent in pleasure is a stolen moment from another task. That's ok - it's what I signed up for - but sometimes it's just crazy. You need to know how to multi-task. I am known for this - I do lots of things at once and I think this is a skill I have honed to perfection and sometimes I'm too into it. All mums can do it. It's key if you want little one to be happy and well looked after/want a life/need to keep your head above water.

Busy is also good. One of the things I was really looking forward to in having a baby was meeting other mums and babies and establishing a network. I had no clue (really) what a baby entailed, and all those uncertain forays to pre-natal yoga, playgroups, story times etc. have really paid off as I have met a great bunch of women who have become really good, reliable and supportive friends. Every day is filled with events and playdates and we both love it. It can be lonely sometimes with just the little one so I have found that getting out with other mums is a lifesaver. It's great to compare notes, swap stories and have a chat. I've also found the advice fantastic: what's normal, what's not and when not to worry. [believe me, you spend a lot of time being worried.] Having friends with babies is grounding. And also good fun when you can leave the babies and go on a little night out ;)

I'd like to write more but I think I have to go now. The laundry is beeping so that has to be hung (why don't the english do dryers??!!!), the cat has just been sick on the floor and the kitchen looks like a tornado tore through it. Sigh. It's a busy life but I'm enjoying it!
